Carbon Pricing

Putting a Price on Carbon – The Carbon Fee & Dividend Proposal

November 6, 2019 7-830pm

Location: Sebastopol Grange.

Cost: FREE but Registration required – see form below

Peter G. Joseph, M.D., Citizen Climate Lobby (CCL), will share details of a Carbon Fee & Dividend approach to reducing our fossil fuel addiction. CCL advocates for a predictable, steeply rising carbon fee that is fully returned to citizens and a border carbon duty to incentivize trading partners to do the same. He will review the latest scientific data and discuss both the technical and political aspects of humanity’s greatest challenge. We’ll also review and discuss other carbon pricing projects (CA AB32) and strategies (eg. Green New Deal).

Dr. Peter Joseph, Citizen Climate Lobby (Marin)

Peter G. Joseph, M.D. is an emergency physician trained by former Vice President Al Gore to educate the public about the devastating impacts of global warming. He now leads the Marin County, CA chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Dr. Joseph attended Columbia University and The University of Michigan Medical School. He practiced Emergency Medicine for 35 years. In January 2007, Dr. Joseph was trained by former Vice President Al Gore how to alert the public to the facts about global warming, as depicted in the Oscar winning movie, “An Inconvenient Truth.” He’s been an active speaker since for the past 12 years. He has lead the Marin County chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby for the past 7 years. CCL advocates a fully refunded, revenue-neutral carbon fee, dividend and border carbon duty as the most effective, efficient and equitable means of curbing greenhouse gas emissions. He has authored three winning proposals in the MIT Climate CoLab contests for a U.S. Carbon Price and serves as liaison to Rep. Jared Huffman. After a 35 year career in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Joseph now devotes his time to educating the public and elected leaders about the increasingly dire consequences of climate destabilization and how to correct the market failure that has allowed it to occur.
