Deck of CARDS to facilitate the Resiliency Expert activity.
We’ve compiled the various solar applications shown on the Magic Solar Cell poster in CARD format, with one side showing the application and a brief description, and the other BACK listing some pros and cons. A sample is shown below. We haven’t yet printed the cards in deck format, but you can download (PDF) and print them yourself for your own set (See link below). We’ve written this story about students taking on the role of “Resiliency Experts” for their town, where they work in small teams to evaluate a range of solar applications and pick the best ones for their own community. This short activity is a way to engage students in the topic, letting them discover some of the many different solar applications and discussing which ones would work best in their town. From this activity one can segue to several qualitative solar explorations with solar cells+motors+fans and/or let students build a solar carnival ride. Or students can pick a solar application to research further and share out with the class later on. Download the Instructor Booklet below for an introductory narrative and some additional details.
